Two young men were injured when they were shot during an attempted robbery Tuesday in Columbus.

Police say the robbery occurred around 5 p.m. in the 2300 block of Sims Court. Three males, ages 20, 19 and 14, told investigators a man came to an apartment they were visiting knocked on the door, pulling out a semi-automatic pistol and demanding property when they opened the door.

The suspect's gun fired twice while the three victims tried to disarm the man, striking two of the victims. Neither victim's injuries appear to be life-threatening, police say.

The suspect, who remains at large, was described as a black male in his 20s with a tall, thin build. He may have "significant injuries" from the altercation with the victims. Police say he was wearing a tan shirt and black pants at the time of the robbery attempt.

Police later identified Brandyn Thirkield, who is believed to be a resident of Indianapolis, as a person of interest in the case. Investigators say Thirkield is about 5'9" tall, weighing 145 pounds.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery or the suspect is asked to contact Columbus Police Det. Sgt. Tom Foust at 812-376-2642. Callers can remain anonymous.
