INDIANAPOLIS -

It was a holiday treat for children at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.

On Thursday, they gathered near the playroom windows of the Simon Family Tower as elves rappelled 10 stories down the windows.

"Many of our patients can't be home for the holidays," said Melissa Sexton, a special events coordinator at the hospital. "Our goal is to bring children every ounce of normalcy possible while hospitalized. This is just one of the many special events we arrange for them year-round."

Santa also made rounds, visiting children in each room on every floor of the hospital. He presented a toy to each of them. The Cheer Guild, which operates the hospital's Toy Room, distributes more than 14,000 items to Riley pediatric patients each month.

The elves were from American National Skyline Inc.
