INDOT prepares for treacherous driving conditions

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indiana Department of Transportation is advising people who live in areas affected by snow and ice to avoid non-essential travel, saying driving conditions could be treacherous.

For much of the state this is the first winter storm of the season and INDOT is reminding drivers to be cautious. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning that is in effect for many central and southern areas of the state through midnight Friday.

The weather service is predicting up to 10 inches of snow in some areas. The weather service says conditions will make travel dangerous and recommends traveling only in an emergency. For motorists who must travel, it recommends keeping a flashlight, food and water in their vehicle for emergencies.
