Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries plans to run for the seat being vacated by retiring state Sen. Tom Wyss.
The News-Sentinel reports Fries will run in the Republican primary in May. Wyss announced in September he would not seek an eighth term. County Councilman Darren Vogt has announced his candidacy, and former City Councilwoman Liz Brown has also expressed interest.
Because of term limits, Fries could not run again after serving two terms as sheriff of the northeast Indiana county. Fries said he believes his 32-year career in law enforcement and business experience would serve his constituents well in Indianapolis.
Fries says he believes government should provide the infrastructure, then get out of the way so entrepreneurs can create jobs.
