CARMEL -

A woman convicted in the death of a 5-month-old at her home day care was sentenced Tuesday.

Stacey Cox was also convicted of deception and operating a child care home without a license. Prosecutors say Conor Tilson suffocated after Cox left him in a broken playpen with an oversized blanket.

Cox was sentenced to 970 days behind bars with 790 executed. She has already served 302 in jail.

She was also sentenced to 365 days in work release and 180 days suspended and on probation.

Cox is prohibited from working in any kind of care-giving setting.

On the deception charge, Cox will serve 365 days concurrently, and for operating a daycare without a license, she was sentenced to 180 days concurrently.

She must also do 30 hours of community service. Cox was appointed a court-provided attorney to appeal the decision.
