Indiana high schools raise funds for storm relief

KOKOMO -

Student from rival high schools in Howard County are working together to raise funds for people in the Kokomo area who suffered damages when tornadoes and other storms moved through recently.

The Kokomo Tribune reports student councils from Kokomo High School and Western High School have collaborated to organize a fundraiser leading up to Wednesday's basketball game between the two schools.

Kokomo High Principal Mike Sargent says he is proud of the effort because the fundraiser is student-initiated and student-driven.

The students are selling T-shirts that say "765StandUp." The phrase refers to a tweet by Kokomo High School students after the storms asking for volunteers to join the relief efforts.

The National Weather Service says 28 tornadoes touched down in Indiana on November 17.
