A 77-year-old Fortville man faces charges after police say he abused a 26-year-old mentally handicapped woman over the course of eight years.

Charles "Val" Ake of N. Balfer Dr. faces charges of sexual deviate conduct, a B felony, and sexual battery, a D felony.

According to the Fortville Police and Hancock County prosecutor, Ake sexually abused the woman on multiple occasions.

Police believe Ake targeted the woman because she has mental challenges, and they say she is not capable of giving consent. It's been determined she has the mental capacity of a seven- or eight-year-old child.

Fortville Police arrested Charles Ake Thursday at his home without incident. He was taken into custody and transported to the Hancock County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.
