INDIANAPOLIS -

A police chase ended in a vehicle fire on I-70 Tuesday afternoon. It happened in the eastbound lanes of I-70 near Holt Road before 2:00 pm.

Several units from Indianapolis Metro Police are on the scene. Police had to use stop sticks, and the vehicle was badly damaged by fire.

It started when the suspects fled from a traffic stop near 86th Street and Lafayette Road. IMPD took two women and one man into custody after the chase, which lasted around ten minutes and went through the northwest and west sides of Indianapolis, ending on I-70 near Holt Road.

Police say the suspects' vehicle left the road, went down the embankment and caught fire. The officers took the suspects into custody and put out the fire.

The suspects were later identified as Ashley Sorrell, who was driving the vehicle, Ashley Smiley and Stephanie Vinson.

Police say the suspects may have been stealing packages from UPS and FedEx stops. A toolbox reported stolen in Hendricks County was also recovered from the car.

Sorrell and Smiley were taken to Wishard Hospital to be checked out.

Sorrell, 26, was arrested for auto theft and resisting law enforcement. Smiley, 44, was arrested for resisting law enforcement and Vinson, 27, was arrested for theft and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle.
