INDIANAPOLIS -

Some northside residents heard a loud crack of thunder, then discovered smoke in their home.

Indianapolis Fire Department was called to 9637 Winsome Court just after 1 a.m. Sunday.  The house is in "The Preserves" neighborhood near 82nd and Fall Creek Road.

The couple were sleep when the thunder woke them.  Just as they got up to check things out, smoke detectors began sounding in the house.

When fire crews arrived, smoke was showing from the home.  Fire was found in the basement.  It took about 40 minutes to get the fire under control.

One firefighter was taken to St. Vincent Hospital for dehydration.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
