Sunday severe storm potential - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

Sunday severe storm potential

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a High Risk of Severe Weather for all of Indiana on Sunday.

This means there is a strong probability for severe thunderstorms to develop, and you need to be "weather aware" on Sunday.

It looks like the first round of strong or severe storms could arrive late morning into early afternoon. Another round of severe thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon, especially late afternoon into the early evening. A strong cold front will arrive during the afternoon. Damaging winds in excess of 70 mph or more will be possible, as well as isolated tornadoes.

The SkyTrak13 Weather team will keep you updated via Channel 13, WTHR.com, Facebook, and Twitter. Make sure you have the SkyTrak13 weather app on your smart phone.

Sunday will also be a windy day too! A Wind Advisory has been issued for Sunday from Noon to 9 p.m. Sustained winds of 30 mph with gusts of 45 mph will be possible. These winds will not necessarily be associated with the thunderstorm activity.

In the mean time, showers and thunderstorms will be likely later tonight and through the overnight. Temperatures will remain near steady during the overnight, in the mid 50s.

The first round of strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible from 10am to 4pm Sunday.

The second round of storms will develop along the strong cold front. This looks like our best chance of severe thunderstorms. The timing of this round could arrive between 4pm and 8pm. Damaging winds in excess of 70 mph and isolated tornadoes will be possible.

We will keep you updated on Channel 13, WTHR.com and all of the social media platforms through the day Sunday. Hopefully, you already have our app on your smart phone but if not, right now would be a good time to download the SkyTrak13 Weather app.

High pressure builds back in late Sunday night. A quiet and dry pattern settles in for several days before more rain chances arrive on Thursday.

A dry and quiet pattern settles in for part of the work week. It will be much cooler too, with temperatures struggling to climb into the upper 40s.
