A high school football referee is in listed in fair condition Saturday after collapsing during a game Friday night.

The 6A Semi-State game between Carmel High School and Penn had a very scary moment in the 2nd quarter when head official/referee Joe Calderazzo collapsed before a snap.

Calderazzo had to be resuscitated on the field by EMTs and personnel. Calderazzo was able to wave to the crowd as he was taken by stretcher off the field and taken to a Carmel hospital.

The IHSAA told WNDU-TV that Calderazzo was conscious and under observation at a hospital. His condition was described as "guarded optimism."

Calderazzo is from Washington, Indiana.
