Indiana freshman guard Larryn Brooks earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. She shared the weekly award with Northwestern's Nia Coffey.
Brooks led all scorers with 19 points in IU's 85-55 win over Oakland in the team's season opener on Nov. 9. She shot 6-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
The Richmond, Ky., native led the Hoosiers with four assists, tied for the team lead with seven rebounds and had a blocked shot. Brooks started in her collegiate debut and played 27 minutes.
Brooks helped Indiana's offense to its highest scoring total in over four years and its highest point total in a season opener since 2002. She was one of nine first-year players who made their Hoosier debut against Oakland.
This is the first conference Freshman of the Week honor for IU women's basketball since Dec. 17, 2012, when Nicole Bell earned the same recognition.
Indiana will battle IPFW on the road on Tuesday night in Ft. Wayne, Ind. That game will tip at 7 p.m. ET.
