Indianapolis debuts "Safe Town" app

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

A new app is being rolled out by the city designed to make Indianapolis a safer place.

"Safe Town" allows people to track police and emergency responder activity real time.  People can also use the app to report suspicious activity.  And soon you'll be able to provide information about your household to help first responders.

"The household profile feature will let some individuals provide critical information to first responders before an emergency," Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said.  "When police or firefighters then arrive on the scene.  they will know how many people live in the home, are there any pets, do people live in there special needs or is there other critical information to save lives."

You can check out the Safe Town website here.

The app is being introduced at a time when the city is seeing more reports of violent crime, including home invasions.
