Ball State officials alerted students after a reported robbery attempt near campus Tuesday night.
Police say shots were fired during the incident at University Avenue and Reserve Street around 8:45 p.m. Investigators say the attempted robbery happened during an arranged meeting to sell personal items. Both the victim and suspect pulled out weapons, with the victim shooting a handgun into the air.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The Muncie Star Press reported university officials issued a text message alert to students around 9:30 p.m.
The incident occurred less than a mile from the Ball State campus. The suspect fled the scene in a direction away from the campus, but had not yet been apprehended, the newspaper reported.
