The tour bus of a country music star struck and killed a pedestrian in southwestern Indiana early Monday.

"With a heavy heart, I'm sad to say that a man passed away last night after stepping out in front of my bus in Indiana," singer Jason Aldean wrote on his Facebook page Monday afternoon.

Knox County Sheriff Michael Morris says Aldean's tour bus struck Albert Kennedy on US 41 about six miles from Vincennes around 1:30 a.m. Monday. Kennedy died of massive head and chest injuries at the scene.

Morris told WTWO-TV in Terre Haute his deputies were familiar with Kennedy.

"We would receive calls from time to time from him walking on the highway, which at that point is not illegal, walking along the side of the roadway. It's not an interstate highway, so it is legal at that point, and our deputies would contact him," he said.

Aldean was traveling to Illinois for a vacation after wrapping up a recent tour. He and the driver were the only people on the bus at the time of the crash.

"In all the years I've been touring and all the miles we've driven, nothing prepares you for something like this to happen. I'm praying for Albert Kennedy's family and friends today and ask that you do the same," Aldean wrote.
