Trucker faces felony charges in fatal 2012 crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -

A truck driver whose semi crashed last year along a northeastern Indiana highway, killing a 4-year-old girl, faces reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter charges in that crash.

Fifty-five-year-old Gary Golay of West Mansfield, Ohio, was also charged Wednesday with nine felony counts of criminal recklessness and a misdemeanor count of false informing.

The Journal Gazette reports court documents allege Golay skipped required rest periods and falsified a logbook that long-haul drivers are supposed to keep tracking the hours they drive. A probable cause affidavit says police found "significant irregularities" in Golay's recorded travel times.

Golay's 68,000-pound semi loaded with auto parts crashed into four vehicles along U.S. 30 in July 2012. The Fort Wayne crash killed Abigail Little of Albion, who was riding in her family's minivan.
