Colts receiver Reggie Wayne suffered a season-ending knee injury during Sunday night's game against the Broncos, Eyewitness News has learned.
Wayne limped off the field late in the game. The Colts got the victory 39-33, but celebrations are muted by Monday's news that Wayne will be out for the season.
Wayne had an MRI to determine that his ACL on his right knee was torn.
"We hate to lose anybody, but this one stinks. You just don't replace guys like 87. But he'll be back. I know how he's wired. I know what his DNA is. I know how he is as a man. Everybody's gonna so no way, but after the conversation I just had with him, just wait and see," said Colts Coach Chuck Pagano, speaking about the injury at a Monday news conference.
Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted, "Prayers and much love for #87 Reggie...let's pray his right knee gets miracle news!!! Love that man and pray for good news!!!!"
Reggie Wayne is on a long list of Colts players with injuries. Along with Reggie, the Colts have also lost tight end Dwayne Allen and running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard to season-ending injuries.
Samson Satele went out during the Broncos game with a bone contusion, but later came back and played.
Josh Gordy had a groin injury, as did Darius Butler, but Butler also came back and played in the game.
The Colts are awaiting test results on Mario Harvey's hamstring and Cam Johnson's ankle injury.
Colts Coach Chuck Pagano praised his players after the game.
"We had a ton of guys suck it up, find a way. We knew what type of game it was going to be and credit to Denver. They got an outstanding football team, as we know. Credit our guys for sucking it up and finding a way to pull that thing out in the end and hold on. Lot of ebbs and flows in that game. A lot of big plays made on both sides. We made just enough plays to get out with the win."
