Bicyclist struck on east side, driver arrested

Updated:

A Metro Police officer was injured and a bicycle rider seriously hurt after a hit-and-run.

Witnesses say an SUV hit 48-year-old Edward Lange just after 1:30 AM while pulling out of a Marathon gas station at 10th and Rural Streets on the city's east side.

The van drove off, but police came upon it while on another run and chased it several blocks to Temple and St. Clair.

The van flipped over, and police say the 33-year-old suspect jumped out and fled.  He allegedly tried to tackle an officer, who injured his ankle while restraining and arresting the driver.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor.

Lange is in serious condition at Wishard Hospital.
