A porcelain manufacturing firm plans to create 140 new jobs in Kokomo over the next two years.
Patriot Porcelain, LLC made the announcement Tuesday. It will operate out of a former pottery factory on North Union Street which has been vacant for six years. Patriot Porcelain manufactures toilets and sinks. The company will invest in $16 million in new equipment to upgrade the factory.
Patriot Porcelain is a new private-label vitreous china manufacturer. The building's former occupants laid off their staff when they outsourced work to China in 2007. City leaders say the project "represents the return of these high-quality porcelain manufacturing jobs to Kokomo, and to the United States."
Funding is being provided by First Farmers Bank and Trust, the City of Kokomo's Revolving Loan Fund program, and private investment.
