DANVILLE -

One driver suffers critical leg injuries and two others are hurt after a crash in Hendricks County Sunday.

The three-car wreck shut down U.S. 36 for about an hour just west of Danville Sunday night.

The most seriously injured driver was flown by air ambulance for leg injuries.

Witnesses say a line of cars had stopped for a left-hand turn onto County Road 775 West when a westbound car hit its brakes to avoid the stopped traffic and that's when the accident happened.

Witness Carl Schunke described what he saw."He glanced off a silver car. Looked like he was trying to avoid traffic.  Went into oncoming traffic and hit a Saturn head on a blue car stop the Saturn, got slightly airborne traded in and wound up in the ditch."

Rescue crews had to cut the female victim in a red SUV out of her crumpled vehicle. She was the most seriously injured. Two other motorist went to local hospitals.
