A convicted child molester was shot with a stun gun after resisting officers following his trial Tuesday evening.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says Michael Sloan of Edinburgh asked the court to give his family a hug after he was convicted of child molesting. The judge denied the request and ordered Sloan to be taken into custody.

Sloan resisted the officers, one of which deployed his TASER to subdue the suspect. He was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital before being transported to the jail. Police say Sloan's mother reportedly collapsed inside the courtroom and was checked by medics at the scene.

Sloan is being held without bond as he awaits sentencing.

Edinburgh Police Chief David Mann says Sloan was convicted of molesting a 13-year-old girl.
