WINCHESTER -

The trial is underway for an eastern Indiana man charged with giving his mother a deadly medication overdose and then fatally shooting his father.

A Randolph County jury began hearing testimony Tuesday as prosecutors presented the case against 37-year-old Brian Hartman. He faces two counts of murder and an assisting suicide charge in the 2010 deaths of his 53-year-old father and 52-year-old mother at their rural home outside Winchester.

The Star Press reports Hartman showed little emotion as his aunt and daughter cried while testifying about his actions on the days surrounding the deaths.

Dr. Alison Syme testified about examining Cheri Hartman 10 days before her death. Syme says Hartman's brain tumor hadn't grown since a 2008 operation and she wasn't in dire condition despite emphysema and other ailments.
