BLOOMINGTON -

Rocker John Mellencamp and novelist Stephen King are in Indiana to debut their new musical.

"Ghost Brothers of Darkland County" debuts Thursday in Bloomington.

Mellencamp first approached King with the concept of the play more than a decade ago. It's about the story behind a haunted cabin Mellencamp once bought.

Mellencamp handled the music, King wrote the story.

"I love haunted house stories and this struck me as almost like an archetype - a basic, really good haunted house story - and then John brought on the brothers. What sort of turned my dials is I thought to myself, 'Well suppose you have this cabin and you have live people who are there to hear the story of what happened to these kids and the kids themselves are there, the audience sees them, but the live people on the stage don't?'," King said. "I thought that would be a lot of fun. That really kind of got me going."

After its debut in Bloomington, the musical will go on a 19-city tour.
