Some at Purdue University are questioning school President Mitch Daniels' decision to speak at a fundraiser for a conservative Minnesota think tank.

Daniels spoke Monday in Minneapolis before supporters of the Center of the American Experiment, which promoted the speech as a review of his eight years as Indiana governor.

Purdue English professor Bill Mullen tells the Journal & Courier he believes the speech broke the pledge Daniels made to avoid partisan politics after taking the Purdue job. Mullen says there's no reason Purdue's president should be out giving speeches about taxes in other states.

Purdue spokeswoman Shelley Triol says Daniels speaks to many different groups and this one asked him to talk about Indiana's fiscal transformation.
