The man struck and killed Saturday night on the east side has been identified in a police report as Charles Hardister, 19, of Indianapolis.
Police were dispatched to 32nd Street and Shadeland Avenue about just after 10 p.m. Saturday for the report a person hit. Hardister was pronounced dead at the scene by medics and a Marion County coroner was called to the scene to transport his body.
Investigators did say the victim was wearing dark clothing and that may have been a factor in the accident. No sidewalks and no street lights may have also contributed.
Police say the driver, Keith Brown, 22, of Indianapolis, stayed at the scene after the accident and was transported to Wishard Hospital for a blood draw. Officials say they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
