Moderate rates set for Indiana insurance exchange

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Insurance plans in the coming federal health insurance exchange are expected to run from just under $100 per month for some single adults to close to $1,000 for family of four.

The U.S. Health and Human Services announced rates Wednesday for Indiana and 35 other states that have opted for federal control. A 27-year-old would pay anywhere from $168 for bare-bones, "catastrophic" coverage to $332 for the cheapest of the so-called "gold" plans. Federal tax credits will reduce costs the low-income adults.

The health insurance exchanges are set to open a six-month enrollment period next week.

State officials are encouraging residents to pre-screen themselves to see if they'll qualify for Medicaid or federally subsidized insurance.

The state says more than 500,000 people would be eligible to enroll in the exchange.
