INDIANAPOLIS -

An Indianapolis writer is getting "locked up" to bring awareness to National Banned Book Week.

Hugh Vandivier will be imprisoned behind a wall of banned books at the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library on Senate Avenue. Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five," Mark Twain's "The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn" and J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series are just a few of the banned or challenged books of the past decade.

"It's just amazing to think about, that we live in a country that we cherish our First Amendment so dearly, and yet there are people who, if it's a book they find offensive or they don't agree with, or it's a viewpoint that runs counter to theirs, they feel the need to ban it," said Vandivier.

He will live in the library 24 hours a day for the entire week.
