Fort Wayne officer crashes squad car, badly hurt

Updated:
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -

A Fort Wayne police officer has been hospitalized in serious condition after a squad car crash left him pinned inside the vehicle.

Officer Michael McEachern needed to be extricated from the vehicle with assistance from the Fort Wayne Fire Department and members of Three Rivers Ambulance Authority following the crash Thursday night on the city's southeast side.

Police say that preliminary reports indicate McEachern was responding to an emergency call when he lost control of the car and it left the road, striking a small tree and a utility pole.
