A newly updated website offers job-seekers and employers a snapshot of the current workforce.@
IndianaSkills.com is a searchable database of current job statistics (supply and demand) for both Indiana and specific regions of the state. The site, which made its debut last fall, was updated just this month to have the most current data available on the jobs, skills and certifications employers requested throughout Indiana.
The update also includes information about how graduates of associates degrees and certificate programs are faring in terms of wages and employment a year later. The supply data is gleaned from the Indiana Workforce Intelligence System (IWIS), a unique database that tracks the employment and wages of recent college graduates of public Indiana institutions.
IndianaSkills is an initiative from the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's Ready Indiana program and covers occupations requiring at least a high school diploma, but less than a four-year degree (associate's degrees, certificates and industry credentials).
If you're looking for a job, you can search a local or preferred region of the state to discover the most in-demand jobs and read overviews of each. Among the details you will see: average salary, baseline and specialized skills needed, certification/training required, training providers (with contacts); job status and earnings of recent graduates.
Employers can use the site to quickly and easily download customized job descriptions pulling from the data available. The goal is that employers will use the information to enhance job postings with things like industry certifications, which students and job seekers can earn more quickly than a degree and often count for credit toward a degree. Employers can also learn about regional and state occupational trends, as well as wages being paid to similar employees around the state.
