Historic home that's star of tour was nearly razed

A run-down house the city of Muncie had planned to raze is now the star of a historic home tour following a detailed renovation.

The 19th century home that's one of Muncie's oldest houses was saved from the wrecking ball by developer Flaherty and Collins after a federal agency intervened and required the city to consider alternatives before proceeding with a demolition.

The restored two-story brick structure is being showcased this weekend during Muncie's 37th Annual Old Washington Street Festival and Historic Home Tour.

Although Delaware County records indicate the house was built in 1880, city historic preservation officer Bill Morgan tells The Star Press he believes it was built as many as 30 years before then based on its very early Greek Revival style.
