Scathing obituary about abusive Nevada mother goes viral

Updated:
RENO, NV -

The children of an abusive woman whose horror stories prompted Nevada to become one of the first states to allow children to sever parental ties are bidding farewell to their mother with a scathing obituary that has become an Internet sensation.

The obit for Marianne Theresa Johnson-Reddick that ran first in Tuesday's editions of the Reno Gazette-Journal said they "celebrate her passing from this earth and hope she lives in the after-life reliving each gesture of violence, cruelty and shame that she delivered on her children."

Katherine and Patrick Reddick, now in their 50s, confirm they prepared the obit about their mother, who died in a Reno nursing home Aug. 30 at the age of 78.

The children say they hoped to draw attention to child abuse with the obit.
