Carmel's Flowing Well closed to public

Updated:
CARMEL -

A popular natural well in Carmel has been closed after water samples tested positive for harmful bacteria.

The natural-spring fed Flowing Well, located on 116th Street east of Gray Road, has been closed for the last few days after routine, monthly testing by City of Carmel Utilities. The most recent test samples have been reported positive for total Coliform, but absent for E. coli.

Carmel Utilities has checked to ensure the seals and existing plumbing were not the source of the issue. Test results received Tuesday show positive traces of harmful bacteria, so the well will remain closed.

If you have obtained or have any remaining water from the well, you're advised to dispose of the water immediately and do not drink it. Also, the public is being asked not to remove or jump over the temporary fencing installed to prevent people from collecting the water.

The Flowing Well is a long-time Carmel landmark known for its spring water, attracting people from Carmel and beyond. In 1992, Flowing Well Park was established as a greenspace.
