A man in his 40s was killed Monday evening after the Lowell, Ind., home he was in was leveled in a fiery explosion.
The man's name was not being publicly released by authorities as of Tuesday morning, according to Chicago NBC affiliate WMAQ.
The Northwest Indiana Times reports a home in the 100 block of East 181st Avenue was leveled by an explosion around 7 p.m. local time. The explosion also damaged a nearby home, which caught fire after the blast.
One firefighter suffered a knee injury in the incident and another firefighter may have also been injured.
The cause of explosion remains under investigation. No other structures were reported to be damaged.
