Two of Indiana's top rural development officials have resigned after less than nine months on the job.
Office of Community and Rural Affairs Director Dax Norton and Deputy Director Jon Craig both resigned Aug. 29.
The Indianapolis Star reports both wrote brief, handwritten letters of resignation on notebook paper. Norton said in his letter that he had decided to pursue other interests.
State personnel office spokeswoman Ashley Hungate tells The Indianapolis Business Journal that Craig did not offer a reason for leaving.
Norton led economic development efforts for Boone County before his appointment this year, and Craig was mayor of the southwestern Indiana city of Petersburg.
Kyleen Welling, general counsel to Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann, will lead the Office of Community and Rural Affairs on an interim basis.
