PLAINFIELD -

A Plainfield High School student has been arrested for bringing two guns to school.

School officials said the student admitted to bringing the shot gun to school Thursday. According to school administrators, when they searched the student's vehicle Friday, they found a BB gun that looked like a hand gun.

School administrators sent an email to Plainfield High School parents Friday, explaining what they say happened.

"At no time were our students or staff in any danger," the email read.

According to the school, a student brought a shotgun with him to school Thursday and was showing it to other students in the school parking lot during lunch. School administrators said the student admitted to having the shotgun on school property when they questioned him Friday, after they receiving a tip about the incident.

When administrators searched the student's vehicle, according to the email, "A BB gun was found inside the vehicle and confiscated. The BB gun resembled a hand gun."

According to the school, another vehicle belonging to the student's parents was searched off property and that's where police found the shotgun.

According to the email, disciplinary action was taken against the student, but the e-mail did not say what it was.

The email urged parents to "please discuss with your children the importance of appropriate behavior both in and out of school."

According to the school, the student only showed the gun, but did not make any threats with it.

Some parents we spoke with, who wouldn't go on camera, said the incident made them feel uneasy in light of school shootings that have occurred across the country.

The Plainfield Community School Corporation said visitors to their schools can't get inside unless they are buzzed in through a locked door. The district has one school resource officer who patrolled all of the district's schools, but is based at the high school.

In the email to parents, the district reminded people that at no time are weapons or look-a-like weapons of any kind allowed on school property.
