INDIANAPOLIS -

Governor Mike Pence says he wants to send a message. That's why he chose to make Japan the first trade mission of his administration.

The 40-person delegation left from Indianapolis International Airport Thursday morning. It includes two mayors and 19 business leaders from across the state.

The mission runs through September 14th and includes meetings with 20 different companies.

"I am anxious to build on the progress that we have made. I really am. I go into this with a deep sense of gratitude about investments already made in Indiana over the last 30 years. But with a quarter of a million Hoosiers out of work, I am also going with a real message about the companies who are here and the companies who are looking. We want them to know what a great story Indiana is," said the governor.

No tax dollars are being used for the trip. The cost is covered by private donations.
