Metro police investigate south side traffic fatality

Metro police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian.

Police were called to Madison Avenue at Stop 11 Road around 10:41 p.m. Sunday.  When officers arrived, the found a male victim, who was unresponsive.  EMS personnel at the scene later pronounced the victim dead.

The driver of a white Dodge SUV, 23-year-old Zachary Wethington of Indianapolis was heading north on Madison Avenue when he says he did not see the victim either walking or running across the street.

The driver attempted to apply the brakes of the SUV, but unfortunately was not able to stop in time, striking the victim. Wethington has been cooperating with investigators and was offered a blood draw. Investigators do not suspect alcohol was a factor in this accident.
