Five wounded in four Indianapolis shootings overnight

INDIANAPOLIS -

A violent night is keeping IMPD busy.  Four separate shootings have sent five people to area hospitals.

In the first incident, two people were shot on the northeast side late Thursday.

Police say the shootings occurred near 40th Street and Catherwood around 11 p.m.  One of the victims, who was shot in the shoulder while sitting in a vehicle, arrived at a nearby fire station a short time later. 

Medics sent the man on to the hospital while as they were responding to tend to the other victim, who had been shot in the back.

Police do not know at this time if the victims shot each other, or if there may be a suspect at large.

The second incident appeared to be a shootout near 37th and Hillside shortly after Midnight.  Police on the scene tell Eyewitness News they found at least 29 shell casings in the area.  One person was shot inside a vehicle, and drove to Wishard for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening wounds.

The third incident occurred at 30th and Hovey at 1:00 a.m., with a single gunshot victim.

When officers arrived, they found the man with an apparent gunshot wound to his back. Medics took the man to Wishard Hospital in critical condition.

His identity is being withheld at this time.

The fourth shooting took place on the northwest side, in the 1100 block of West 27th.  A person was shot in the leg during an apparent robbery attempt.
