Eastern Indiana judge to rule on historic home's fate

RICHMOND -

An eastern Indiana judge says he'll rule within a week on the fate of a historic Richmond home city officials want to demolish.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David A. Kolger heard arguments Wednesday from the home's owner, Richmond's city attorney and the city's metropolitan development director.

John P. Cahill filed a civil complaint last month seeking a temporary restraining allowing the historic 3-story brick home to remain standing while the case plays out. The Palladium-Item reports Cahill also wants the city to vacate its order that the building either be demolished or repaired to meet city code.

The 1875 home is in Richmond's Historic Depot District. It's been vacant since a 2004 fire and city officials say the building has drawn numerous complaints over the years.
