Monroe County cracks down on homeless camping

Updated:

Monroe County has a new ordinance that will keep the homeless from camping on the courthouse grounds in Bloomington.

Commissioners have approved "open hours" on the grounds from 6 AM to 10 PM daily.
The ordinance also bans littering and alcohol consumption on the grounds.

The county attorney says people camping on the grounds this summer have left behind trash and human waste that threatens public health.
