Operation Football kicks off new season Friday, August 23

INDIANAPOLIS -

One of the biggest full-scale, all-out offensives in Indiana high school football starts Friday night.  That's when Eyewitness Sports Director Dave Calabro kicks off another exciting season of Operation Football.

Calabro's first aerial target aboard Chopper 13:  Brownsburg HS, home of the 2012 Spirit Award winners. The Bulldogs open their season in the new "doghouse," the newly renovated football facility which includes new artificial playing turf.

From Brownsburg, Captain Calabro hops aboard Chopper 13 to gather the first Skylights of the season in Zionsville where the #4 5A Eagles take on Lafayette Jeff.  From the land of Eagles to the home of the Stars, Chopper 13 then flies west to Western Boone where the Stars take on the #1 1A Blackhawks of Sheridan.

One of Calabro's comrades on the battlefield, Eyewitness Sports Reporter Eric Yutzy, will head north to Hamilton County where he'll watch Harrison take on the Shamrocks of Westfield.  It's Neon Night there. The football program sold neon green T-shirts with all of the proceeds going to Haitian relief.  From the Westfield, Eric heads to Hamilton Southeastern where the Royals host the Avon Orioles.

Eyewitness Sports Reporter Rich Nye soldiers his way to Lucas Oil Stadium to cover one of the biggest showdowns of the night:  the battle between the #1 5A Cathedral Irish and #3 6A Ben Davis Giants.

The mission doesn't end there.  Eyewitness Sports crews will also bring you highlights of #1 6A Lawrence Central vs township rival Lawrence North, #1 2A Cardinal Ritter at Heritage Christian, #4 Center Grove vs #5 Warren Central and Brebeuf Jesuit vs #1 4A Bishop Chatard.

The Operation Football Cheerleaders of the Week are the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs. The Brownsburg Marching Bulldogs are our Band of the Week.

Miss a highlight?  Want to see more of your team?  Then you'll want to join Dave Calabro on our website at roughly 11:32pm for Operation Football Overtime.  We'd love for you to share your game experience with us on Operation Football OT.
