WATERLOO -

The reigning Miss Indiana is staying focused as she prepares for a trip to Atlantic City, N.J., next month to compete in the Miss America pageant.

Terrin Thomas of Auburn won the Miss Indiana crown June 22. The 21-year-old DeKalb High School graduate tells The Star in Auburn she's gearing up mentally and physically for next month's competition.

She plans to ride in the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival Parade of Classics through downtown Auburn on August 31 before departing for Atlantic City on September 3.

Thomas is keeping her evening gown design a secret but told those gathered at a sendoff reception Monday that she plans to wear a costume inspired by Indiana University's men's basketball team's candy-striped warm-up pants during a parade the night before the finals.
