Pence aide leaving; had role in grade changing

Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Gov. Mike Pence's chief lobbyist is leaving three weeks after her involvement was revealed in the manipulation of the grades Indiana hands its schools.

The Journal Gazette reported Monday (http://bit.ly/16XTuvF) that Heather Neal is joining Limestone Strategies as president of its public affairs practice. The company is based in Indianapolis and Washington, D.C.

Neal was the chief of staff to former Indiana schools Superintendent Tony Bennett last year before joining Pence's team in January.

The Associated Press last month published emails showing a frantic effort by Bennett and Neal to rewrite the state's school-grading formula to change the grade of a charter school founded by a top Republican donor from a C to an A.

Neal wrote in one email, "Oh, crap. We cannot release until this is resolved."
