The Indianapolis Colts evened their preseason record at 1-and-1 Sunday night with a 20-12 win over the New York Giants in the Meadowlands.
Andrew Luck threw two touchdown passes and the Colts defense kept the Giants out of the end zone all night.
The Colts spotted the Giants a 3-0 lead before Luck connected on a 28-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne midway through the first quarter.
An Adam Vinatieri field goal of 52 yards upped the Colts lead to 10-3.
Luck tossed his second touchdown pass of the night with just under 10 minutes left in the first half, an 18-yard strike to T.Y. Hilton.
Josh Brown added his second and third field goals of the half to account for the Giants scoring.
Luck finished his night with 9 completions in 13 attempts for 107 yards and the two scores before giving way to Matt Hasselbeck.
Indianapolis extended its 17-9 halftime lead to 20-9 with a Brandon McManus 50-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Brown added a fourth quarter field goal to finish the scoring.
The Colts responded to criticism by owner Jim Irsay, who used Twitter to apologize to fans for the Colts' 44-20 loss to Buffalo last week, and the Colts (1-1) improved markedly, with some help from the bubbling and suddenly injury-concerned Giants (1-1).
New York wide receiver Victor Cruz left the game because of a foot injury. Cruz, who signed a multiyear, $43-million contract before the start of training camp went to the locker room early in the first quarter to have an X-ray of his foot. The team did not say which one and it was not clear when he was hurt although he was knocked to the turf on a long pass on the third play from scrimmage. Pass interference was called on the play.
Giants center David Baas also left the game early to have an X-ray on his knee. The team did not say which knee.
