One person dead after driver flees from Crawford County police

Police in Crawford County attempted to make a traffic stop but it quickly turned into a pursuit that ended in a deadly crash.   

About 9:27 p.m. Friday evening, the Marengo Town Marshall's Office attempted to stop a 1991 GMC pickup for having defective taillights. The driver, Robert Michael Banet, 44, Leavenworth refused to stop and Marshall James Harrington gave chase.

The pursuit traveled north approximately one mile on Valeene Road when Banet lost control and hit a tree. Banet was airlifted to the University of Louisville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  His passenger, Jeannine Marie Farrell, 56, Mauckport, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Crawford County Coroner's Office.

Troopers from the Jasper Post were called to investigate the crash. Once the crash investigation is complete all findings will be turned over to the Crawford County Prosecutor's Office for review and determination of charges.
