Western Indiana school to get replacement iPads

Updated:
FARMERSBURG, Ind. -

A Western Indiana high school should have replacements soon for more than 400 iPad tablet computers that thieves stole.

Northeast School Corporation Superintendent Mark Baker says that because of the school district's insurance coverage, 406 iPads are waiting to be shipped from China and should arrive within weeks.

Thieves stole 412 iPads from North Central Junior/Senior High School in Farmersburg last week. It's not clear why replacements for all of the stolen tablets aren't being shipped.

The loot included 370 iPads earmarked for high school students who now must share textbooks until the replacements arrive. Classes begin Wednesday at the school 75 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

Baker says a Chicago company has offered to supply covers for the new iPads.
