IFD fights east side apartment fire

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Fire crews were called to put out an east side apartment fire early Tuesday morning at Kingston Square, just north of 34th and Shadeland.

Tania Richardson was in her apartment on Kensington Drive and in bed shortly after 1:00 a.m. when she said she heard something pop in her kitchen.  She got up and found the fire.

After trying unsuccessfully to put out the fire, Richardson woke her young daughter and left the apartment.  She also alerted neighbors and called 911.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire in 15 minutes.

Nobody was hurt and the fire was contained to just Richardson's unit.  She'll stay with her mother.
