Woman flees police, crashes with children in truck
BLOOMFIELD, Ind. -
Three children were severely injured when their mother tried to elude police in Greene County Sunday.
State police say a trooper clocked Jessica Ann Purtlebaugh, 27, of Bloomfield, driving 80 mph in a 55 mph zone on SR 58 south of Bloomfield. While turning around to attempt to catch the speeding truck, the trooper noticed a cloud of dust, smoke and debris surrounding the truck in a garden near CR 500 East.
When the trooper arrived at the truck, he found Purtlebaugh standing by the vehicle with the children crying inside. The three children, who were sharing two seatbelts in the truck, suffered severe lacerations, contusions, swelling, bruising and lost teeth.
Purtlebaugh, who also suffered contusions in the crash, told the trooper she was going to flee, then lost control and struck the embankment. Charges are pending against Purtlebaugh.
