With 97 of the top 100 shows, WTHR dominates July sweeps

INDIANAPOLIS, July 25—WTHR (Channel 13) announced today that according to Nielsen ratings for the recently concluded July 2013 sweeps period, ninety-seven of the one hundred most watched program telecasts in Indianapolis were on WTHR.* The list of the top one hundred shows is dominated by WTHR's local newscasts and NBC Nightly News. In addition, 13 Eyewitness News again ranked a clear number one in all key local newscasts including Monday through Friday at 5-6am, 6-7am, 5-6pm, 6-6:30pm and at 11pm.

WTHR didn't just rank number one- it dominated among local news viewers. In the morning, 13 Eyewitness News Sunrise from 5-7am was watched in 42% more homes than its nearest competitor. From 6-7am, Sunrise garnered a 4.5 rating followed by a distant second place finish by WXIN-TV with a 2.8 rating; followed by WISH-TV with a 2.5 and WRTV with a 1.2 rating.

Weekdays from 5-6pm, WTHR more than doubles the viewing of the second place station, posting a 109% advantage while increasing its year-to-year dominance over the closest competitor. From 5-6pm 13 Eyewitness News scored a 7.1 rating followed by WISH's 3.4, WXIN's 2.9 and WRTV's 2.5 rating.

At 6pm, WTHR's weekday audience was larger than all other 6pm local news competitors combined. WTHR's 6pm news earned a 9.0 rating, beating the combined ratings of WISH (3.5), WRTV (3.1) and WXIN (2.3), while increasing its lead in a year-to-year comparison. It was the most-watched local newscast in July, comprising a quarter of the top twenty-five shows.

At night, Hoosiers turn to 13 Eyewitness News Nighbeat, the hands-down leader with a 59% advantage over the second place newscast on WISH. With a 7.8 rating, WTHR easily out-distanced WISH's 4.9 rating and WRTV's 2.3 rating Monday through Friday.

The top-rated show of the sweeps period was the broadcast of NBC Nightly News on July 15th, 2013 with a 13.7 rating. That was followed by ratings juggernaut Jeopardy. The Jeopardy show which also aired on July 15th earned a 12.7 rating. The most-watched primetime show was the July 9th telecast of America's Got Talent on Channel 13.
