INDIANAPOLIS -

Dangerously high heat will be a problem Thursday for anyone spending long periods of time outdoors in central Indiana. Heat indices will reach close to 100 degrees and there is a chance for isolated thunderstorms across southern portions of central Indiana this afternoon.

Hot and humid conditions will continue through Friday, when afternoon temperatures will top out in the lower to middle 90s with heat indices possibly rising into the lower 100s at times. There is also a chance for thunderstorms Friday into Saturday as a cold front drops into the area. Strong to severe storms will be possible with threats including damaging winds, heavy rain, localized flooding and lightning.

Drier and cooler weather is expected Sunday as the front will settles south of the Ohio River. Storm chances will return by early next week as the front lifts back north into the region.
